Bachelor of Arts Major in Humanities with Professional Certificate in Management, 2012
Master of Science in Management, 2015
After college
My first professional experience was with Benguet Corporation, a mining company that happens to be one of the oldest in the Philippines. I started as an intern on the last semester of my senior year. Our internship program required us to work on actual projects for the company, and I was assigned (along with another UA&P intern) to study and later make an expansion proposal on one of its business units. At the end of our internship, we were able to present to the company’s ManCom our proposal, which they approved. Consequently, we were offered regular positions in the company. A week after graduation, I was Business Development Officer of the company. A few months later, I became a Corporate Planning Officer of a subsidiary of Benguet Corp, and carried on with the implementation of the expansion project based on our proposal.
I later decided to return to UA&P to take my master’s degree, realizing there is much more to learn to become a more effective employee and leader. I also applied to be a Corporate Communications Officer of the University. I was an employee from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and a student from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
One of the main responsibilities of a communications officer is to ensure that the organization maintains a positive image and promotes this to both the internal and external publics. I grew to love and appreciate deeply the University’s beliefs and principles while working in the Corporate Communications Office. Getting to know more about the administration’s goals, and how it sticks to its mission to provide quality education, and witnessing how it sincerely seeks to contribute positively to molding students’ personalities also developed mine.
At present
I am now Project Manager of The Manila Times, the country’s oldest English newspaper. I work on the company’s business units outside of its core business (which is publishing). Being in the media industry, I witness up close the harsh realities of our country’s current situation, but there is also joy from the possibility of making a difference—a positive impact—through my projects.
On UA&P
When I first came to UA&P, the sight of priests freaked me out. I was unnerved and felt very uncomfortable every time I come across them in UA&P’s hallways. For the first few years as a student, I would literally turn around and walk the opposite direction. Later, when I faced my biggest challenge as I was taking up my master’s degree, I decided to seek advice from a priest, one of the most nerve-racking but also most uplifting experience ever.
I would consider him one of my greatest friends now. I still try to keep in touch from time to time and wish him well.
May the University continue to blaze a trail through excellence and service. Unitas!
