UA&P unveils Li Seng Giap Auditorium’s new dedication plaque
The University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) recently held the Unveiling and Blessing Ceremony of the Li Seng Giap Dedication Plaque, a tribute to a partnership defined by shared values and vision. Attended by the Management Committee and members of the Li Seng Giap family, the ceremony celebrated the family’s steadfast support for the University’s mission of integral formation.
The Dedication Plaque reads:
LI SENG GIAP AUDITORIUM
In Memory of Li Seng Giap (1878–1952)
Entrepreneur, visionary, philanthropist, and family patriarch.
Through his vision, perseverance, and generosity, Li Seng Giap laid the foundations for a family whose influence continues to shape communities in business, education, and service.
Together with his beloved wife, Tang Ho De (1885–1975), he raised thirteen children—William, Henry, Sofia, Thomas, Anthony, Julia, Charles, Valeriana, Victor, Silvino, Mary, John, and Peter—who carried forward his values of integrity, hard work, and compassion.
This auditorium stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy, an enduring reminder of a life devoted to family, faith, and service to others.
Dr Fe Gladys Golo, Vice President for Academic and Faculty Affairs, also offered some words to commemorate the occasion:
The famous LI Seng Giap auditorium, which remains our largest venue on campus, has witnessed thousands of milestones in the lives of our students—orientations, fresh starts, incorporation rites, recognition events, graduations, moments of learning, growth, and achievement that have shaped who they are today. It has also served as venues for our opening rites, town hall meetings, and significant moments that brought together school officials, faculty, administrative personnel, all in one roof. In the midst of all that energy and constant flow, this pause to honor our donor is both meaningful and necessary.
It is a fitting reminder that behind every success story is an act of generosity. What began as a simple gesture of giving has rippled outward, opened doors, created opportunities, and transformed lives in ways we may never fully see.

This unveiling is a reminder that progress is never achieved alone. It is built through partnerships, trust, and a shared vision for a better tomorrow. Each of you present today plays a role in that journey, and your presence reflects a collective belief in what we can accomplish together, and what we can continue to build.
Also present was Matthew Lee, great-grandson of Li Seng Giap. He never got to meet his great-grandfather, but he noted warmly that he had come to know his great-grandfather “through the people he shaped, and the places he touched.”
If there is one thing I have learned from the men who came before me in this family, it is that true generosity leaves no room for hesitation. You see something that needs to be built, and you build it. You see something that needs to be restored, and you restore it. Li Seng Giap believed it first. My grandfather Anthony carried it forward. And my father Richard carries it still. And perhaps that is the quiet charge being passed to my generation today, to look at this plaque, to look at this hall, and to ask ourselves: what will we build for those who come after us?
The Dedication Plaque can be found by the entrance of the Li Seng Giap Auditorium, at the 2nd Floor of the APEC Communications Building (ACB).
