On May 20, the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) will reach a significant milestone in its athletic development as it participates, for the first time, in the golf tournament of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Philippines. Hosted at the prestigious Wack Wack Golf and Country Club, the event marks the league’s inaugural venture into golf and UA&P’s entry as a guest team.
Widely regarded as one of the country’s premier collegiate leagues, the NCAA provides a highly competitive platform for student-athletes. UA&P’s participation signals an important step forward as it begins to engage at this level.
“This marks a new chapter for UA&P as we take part in what many consider the ‘big league’ of collegiate athletics,” said University President Atty. Philip Yeung. “It reflects our steady commitment to developing our athletic programs and providing our students with opportunities to compete at a higher level, while remaining faithful to our mission of forming well-rounded individuals.”
UA&P’s involvement reflects a broad institutional vision: the formation of students who pursue excellence not only in academics, but also in discipline, character, and leadership. Golf, in particular, embodies values that resonate strongly with the University’s philosophy, including integrity, focus, and self-mastery. And as a guest team, UA&P enters with the determination to contribute to the continued development of collegiate golf.
“We see this as an important first step,” added University President Atty. Philip Yeung. “It opens opportunities for broader participation in the NCAA and allows more of our students to experience competition at this level.”
As the NCAA opens a new chapter with the introduction of golf, UA&P joins in this historic moment and affirms the role of sports as an integral part of holistic formation.
