Since she was little, Andria Terese Bondad Nicolas has always helped her mother in packing donations and has even tagged along with her on her mother’s outreach projects. Hence, it was nothing new for her when she decided to celebrate her birthday last April 25 by doing what is close to her heart: giving.
Andria donated face shields and soaps to Kiwanis Club of Makati, where she serves as head of public relations.
“I chose to donate to Kiwanis because of their dedication to helping indigent children,” said the 21-year-old resident of Calauan, Laguna. On her birthday last year, she gave meals to the frontliners in Taytay Emergency Hospital.
Andria juggles her extension work in three external organizations with her studies and her business effortlessly. This college freshman taking up Master of Arts in Political Economy with specialization in International Relations and Development (MPE-IRD) is also CEO of Glamhigh Cosmetics, which her family launched in November 2020, giving job opportunities to those economically displaced by the pandemic.
“I focus on my studies on weekdays and tend to my business on Saturdays. That’s when I get updates from our manufacturer and our distributors. My mother handles the finances as she is the brand COO,” the eldest in a brood of three girls remarked.
Andria was about to graduate from Grade 12 when the pandemic struck, but she adapted well to the shift to online learning. At present, she studies the modules on her own and manages her schoolwork by writing down her schedule for the following day.
Asked why she decided to take MPE-IRD, she answered, “I’ve always wanted to be involved in public service. Ever since I was a child, I have been exposed to and involved in many organizations, and I have realized that it is my passion to reach out to others.”
Andria encourages her fellow students to help out during these tough times. According to her, they can join service-oriented organizations, do fundraisings, or donate. More important, said Andria, is to finish college.
“The students now are the next ‘frontliners’ of this country.”#
