The following is a poem song written by Dr. Theta C. Ponce, faculty member of the School of Sciences and Engineering, in celebration of Albert Einstein’s 141st birthday on March 14, 2020. The melody is adapted from the Caisson Song, a march composed by Edmund Gruber.
The Special Theory of Relativity is neat
‘Cause it better describes nature’s beat.
Lengths contract, times dilate,
Mass and energy equate,
As various things move and accelerate.
Through those high, high speeds
In electromagnetic fields,
Ions experience mass increase.
And where’er I go,
People tell me so,
Relativity keeps them on the know!
General Theory of Relativity speaks
Of a clever space time dynamics.
Starlight’s bent near the Sun,
Planets’ orbits do rotate,
As predicted by Einstein the Great.
Of course, black holes exist,
So do gravity waves!
Matter bends space-time
And the other way around.
As the years go by,
We will better know
Why Albert E.
Made such a great show!
Nature’s laws do not change
With respect to any frame
Is the essence of Einstein’s theory.
The speed of light remains the same
‘Though the observer zooms through space
Is a model of such consistency.
Space and time unite,
So do stuff and might.
Energy bends space-time
And the other way around!
As the years go by,
We will better see
Relativity upholds a verity.
Einstein’s theory safeguards our sanity.
Relativity’s a mega-star theory!
