A Child is born on a starry night
To dispel the darkness with His glorious light
The angels sing with amused delight
To their infant King, what a novel sight!
The Mother watches in prayerful wonder
This King of kings lying on a manger
In swaddling clothes in deep slumber
Who would ever think He’s got infinite power?
The Father stands by in loving vigilance
To welcome all who’d come from a distance
To pay homage to the Lord of Creation
While angels hover in great jubilation!
Lowly shepherds come with their sheep
The King to gaze at and to worship
Three wise men from the distant east
Adore with their gifts beside the bleating beasts!
This Child destined for all men’s salvation
Gives so much joy upon contemplation
So fragile-looking, needing protection
Is omnipotent God, the God of Compassion!
