He delights to be with the children of men
This gentle fellow with a sunny grin.
Extremely handsome and, oh, so strong!
In an era of error, he does no wrong.
A guy so attractive in every way
The young and the old are drawn to his sway
His wisdom, far better than the sages’,
Fills men’s hearts through all the ages.
He works with pizzazz and great finesse
Just like his Father—no more, no less
Fine chairs and tables he makes from wood
To help folks relax and enjoy their food.
His Mother he resembles, so beautiful and kind
He lovingly shares with all humankind
To aid a wedded couple, she hints him do a sign
Though it’s not yet time to turn water into wine.
With a phrase or two from his gracious lips
Or the lightest touch of his fingertips
The sick get healed, the dead arise
The storm subsides, bread multiplies!
His voice so cool and reassuring
Brings to mind things good and endearing
Gloom and every sort of fear dispelling
One to work with cheer inspiring.
A bruised reed he will not break
And a smoldering wick he will not slake
His words of mercy and forgiveness give Life
A balm of peace for every strife.
His eyes so limpid and so tender
Look with compassion on the hapless offender
Begging him to begin again
Noble dreams and schemes to attain.
With deep grief he weeps at the blindness of a people
To recognize its Savior who comes to help it soar
From the bondage of error that deviates it from its Goal
From false beliefs and practices that suffocate its soul.
This man so lovely, yet so lowly
Transubstantiates bread into himself for me
To join and feed me throughout life’s journey
To be happy now and in eternity.
Who is this gent so charming and witty?
Who loves me, suffers, dies, and rises again for me?
How can I, too, be always with him?
He likes to dwell in each heart that loves him.
