When the fundraising concert of the fourth-year students of BS Business Administration major in Management ended, the students could not wish for a better outcome. A heart would continue to beat.
“Let It Beat: A Benefit Concert,” held at the Metrotent in Pasig City last April 27, aimed to raise funds for three chosen beneficiaries. Foremost was Allen Llanera, a young boy diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. Children with this rare congenital heart condition usually have bluish skin because their blood does not carry enough oxygen. They experience shortness of breath and a heart murmur. Proceeds of the concert were meant to help Allen with his daily medication and heart operation. Hence, the name of the concert. The two other beneficiaries were ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Purok Gahit in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, which is the School of Management’s (SMN) adopted community for their livelihood project.
Famous bands and artists from different genres performed their hearts out on stage. Blacklisted, Good Kid$ band, and artists Clark Dino and EJ Ortico warmed up the crowd with their songs. The headliners of the concert—Autotelic, Brisom, and IV of Spades—fired up the audience, who sang and danced along the bands’ impressive performance.
Other performers who joined this lineup in hyping up the crowd until midnight were rap and hip-hop artists Just Washington, Al James, Pure Mind Quiet Heart, bands BTC and Presh, solo artists Jaime Kliatchko, Marti Franca, Luigi Ampil, Dino Robles, Erickson Amores, and DJ Zerzac.
Another headliner known for their folk-pop music, Ben & Ben, punctuated the evening with their heart-warming performance of “Bibingka,” “Maybe the Night,” and “Kathang-Isip.”
The concert was co-presented by PayMaya, Inquirer.net, and LexAudioPro and made possible with the support from numerous major and minor sponsors namely Murex, Trampoline Park, Madriaga Catering, Cormay, Gepestcon Co., Anytime Fitness, Jollibee, Vendilink, Lluci Cosmetics, Cottone World, and BG Productions. Included in the list also are Monte Cristo Construction Supply, Jandhi Hardware Construction Supply, Aware & Mofran Auto Supply, J. Michael Construction Supply, Twinbar Metal Industries, Anna Maria Carpio, and PVL.
A unique food experience was also offered by invited food stalls, namely, Gridiron Shawarma and Sausage, Luperg’s Hotdogs, Monkey Mic, Lemonade Bar, and Martha’s Rice Meals. Student entrepreneurs from the batch were also invited to set up their stalls. Among them were El Fuego Mexicana, Rice on the Go!, Big Doms, Wagyu X Sushi, strEAT, Pica Deli, Ty’s Stall, Itusok Mo!, and Biggy’s.
The audience was also moved by a song rendition from Mr. Eduardo Llanera, Allen’s father, who dedicated his personal composition, ”Don’t Give Up,” to his son. The event likewise helped promote the heart-shaped coin bank business of Mr. Llanera, which is the family’s way of supporting the demand of Allen’s operations.
“Let It Beat” was a project under the Entrepreneurship and Innovation class. With the supervision of Dr. Eric Parilla, the students were able to sell approximately 1,600 tickets and raise more than Php250,000 net profit. #
